Photographer Rejects Amy Taylor Settlement Offer— Case Heads to Ruling

Following Today’s Court-Ordered Mediation Between Jamie Nelson and Amy Taylor

Los Angeles, CA — April 20, 2026 —  In today’s federal court-ordered mediation, photographer Jamie Nelson  declined a settlement offer from Australian singer Amy Taylor of Amyl and the Sniffers. Nelson will proceed toward a judicial ruling on key legal issues involving copyright and publicity rights.

The U.S. federal case, held in the Central District of California, stems from claims by plaintiff Amy Taylor alleging unauthorized use of her likeness in connection with Nelson’s fine art photography. Nelson denies those claims and has asserted counterclaims for willful copyright infringement against Taylor, her affiliates, and members of Amyl and the Sniffers, with statutory damages available under federal law.

Nelson filed two dispositive motions against Taylor. The Court granted Nelson’s motion for judgment on the pleadings, narrowing the scope of the case.

In earlier proceedings, the Court dismissed Taylor’s federal false endorsement claim under the Lanham Act as legally insufficient, while granting leave to amend. On March 30, 2026, the Court also denied Taylor’s motion for default against Jamie Nelson Studios.

“While I remain open to reasonable resolution, this case raises broader questions about how photographers’ rights are treated when creative work intersects with public figures,” Nelson said. “I am prepared to proceed and seek clarity from the Court.”

The next hearing is set for April 27, 2026, when the Court is expected to issue further rulings on Nelson’s pending dispositive motions, which could significantly shape the outcome of the case.
