Collection: Tennis Tease

In this series, photographer Jamie Nelson explores the sexuality of women’s tennis in a series entitled ‘Tennis Tease’. The artist pairs dramatic close-up compositions with feminine colors, taking the viewer through a voyeuristic journey of the female form.

Set on a pink tennis court, Nelson’s use of color unveils the story of femininity. Tennis is recognized as a sport for the affluent—the stereotypical sophisticated woman with her hot young tennis coach. Nelson fantasizes the point of view of the male tennis coach whilst juxtaposing her unique and ever-empowering female gaze.

The artist creates daring compositions, isolating each body part—breasts, buttocks, tummy, and legs—paired with their complementary tennis accoutrements. Beads of sweat amidst revealing tops and short tennis skirts showcases the artist’s attention to detail.

Nelson’s images time warp the viewer, evoking the bold sense of freedom reminiscent of 1980’s Nair adverts and Playboy covers. Through her use of color, styling, and composition, the artist embodies the strength of the athletic woman, whilst boldly proving the innate sexuality of women’s tennis.
